Acupuncture

Renée Barsa, L.Ac.
Licensed Acupunturist
IVF Fertility Specialist

Renee K. Barsa graduated from one of the oldest and most respected acupuncture schools in the nation, the Santa Barbara College of Oriental Medicine. Her undergraduate degree in Wildlife Biology from the University of Vermont provided a strong background in the sciences. She is California Board Certified, Facial Acupuncture Certified, and Nationally Licensed, as well as being a Yoga Therapist. Alongside her general practice, she also specializes in infertility and IVF treatments, and was the first acupuncturist to perform these treatments at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital.

Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used systems of healing in the world. Originating at least 3,500 years ago, acupuncture and Oriental Medicine has a proven history of efficacy in re-establishing harmony and balance in the body. It involves the placement of extremely thin needles at precise acupoints, as well as other modalities such as shiatsu massage, herbal medicine, cupping, acu-electrostimulation, heat therapy, and lifestyle/nutrition counseling. The body's own healing processes are activated by these gentle, yet powerful, techniques.

What can acupuncture treat? Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine can treat an extensive array of conditions. The World Health Organization recognizes it to be effective for over 50 conditions, including pain syndromes (headaches, stiff neck, back pain, arthritis, sciatica, etc.), fertility, women's health, sinus infection, colds and flu, insomnia, and stress, to name just a few. Ask your practitioner if it may be suitable for your needs.

Acupuncture and Assisted Reproductive Technology: In recent years, researchers have discovered the tremendous ability of acupuncture to benefit Western medical fertility treatments. A 2002 German study found that using acupuncture shortly before and after in vitro fertilization increased its efficacy by over 40%. In my clinical experience this success rate increases to approximately 60% with the use of acupuncture in the weeks preceding the embryo transfer as well. It has the potential ability to relax the uterus, prevent uterine contractions, increase blood flow to the uterus, increase the number of embryos and quality of eggs, lessen the side effects of Western drugs, and allows a women to feel more at ease throughout the IVF process.

Religious Studies/Shamanism

Sudama Mark Kennedy, MA, Ph.D. (abd)
Religious Studies/Shamanism

"Sudama is a United Nations award winning healer, spiritual teacher, minister, musician, poet, and scholar..." Bar Harbor Times, August, 2005

Energy Medicine and Full Spectrum Healing: I am an intuitive healer and shaman who works with energy medicine and heart wisdom. I seem to be able to reboot people profoundly in a short period of time, in person, remotely, and/or over the phone. People are usually remarkably pain free on all levels after seeing me. Please check my website for a more comprehensive discussion of my work and testimonials. Essentially the body heals itself but a good coach can help the person over-ride the wounds and blind spots. Health is, ultimately, a choice we make; hence, my healings are also empowerments. The subconscious mind speaks to us mytho-poetically. I'm good at decoding these stories, intuiting the causes, and releasing the negative charge. My work covers the full spectrum of situations, physical, mental, emotional, psychological, spiritual and psychic. I work energetically with ancestors, disembodied relatives and beings, and can clear entities, and curses, etc $100 for a one-hour session. Healing CD's available. I'm available for live performance, and lectures. I also have a BA from Princeton in creative writing; I'm particularly articulate in teaching metaphysical material with groups, classes, etc. I play numerous trance inducing instruments and incorporate sound healing in my work.

Ministerial/Shamanic Services: I marry couples into unconditional love. Relationships established in unconditional love outlast those based on trust, because, as we know, things change. $300 to preside over a ceremony you write (I can provide helpful materials) includes appropriate healing and counseling. $500 for a custom written ceremony and more in depth counseling.

Land clearing, negative energy neutralization, braiding house energies (house healing) - $150 and up depending on travel distance.

Massage Therapy

Paul T. Wehrman
Licensed Massage Therapist

"My work combines the therapeutic effectiveness of Deep Tissue Massage with the flowing, integrative qualities of Esalen Massage. Working with the body's deeper soft tissue layers through palpation and assisted stretching, chronic tension patterns and previously dense, hardened tissues are encouraged to unwind, releasing reservoirs of life energy and vitality to promote optimal functioning. This deep work is then supported with long, integrating strokes, creating an experience of deep relaxation, further facilitating the natural ability of body and mind to self heal."

Paul lived and studied in-residence at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA. for 2 yrs. Along with teaching and assisting workshops at Esalen, he is also a current practitioner on staff for the Healing Arts Department.

Massage Therapy

Niav Connor
Licensed Massage Therapist, M.A

Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST) is a very gentle, deeply nourishing and restorative healing modality. It works with the fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord known as the cerebrospinal fluid. The flow of cerebrospinal fluid is understood to have a particular rhythm similar to heart and breath rhythm but much slower.
According to CST, the cranial sacral rhythm is called "primary respiration" or first breath. When there are kinks or blocks in the CS rhythm the body is more susceptible to disease. CST is known to quickly drop clients into parasympathetic states (opposite of fight, flight, freeze) allowing for deep relaxation. When the body is calm and relaxed the entire system is allowed to come into harmonious balance increasing immune system functioning. CST is known to help with immune deficiency, headaches, migraines, shock, physical and/or emotional trauma, chronic fatigue, stress, anxiety, etc. During the session the client remains fully clothed laying face up on a massage table while the therapist places her hands on different parts of the skull, spine or sacrum to assist in releasing any blockages in the CS rhythm.

Massage Therapy

Joshua Milne
Licensed Massage Therapist

Joshua Milne is a Certified Massage Therapist specializing in Barefoot (also known as Compressive Deep Tissue), Trigger Point and Swedish. Growing up on the beaches of Southern California, Josh began surfing at age 9 and it has colored the way he looks at the world. Understanding balance, rhythm and flow of energy through lifelong study of the ocean and waves has been one of his greatest joys. Years as a musician and a carpenter have helped Josh develop a skilled and powerful touch that enlivens his massage work. Josh was trained locally at SBBTI and studied Trigger Point and Barefoot techniques under John Harris.

"I would really love to introduce people to Barefoot Massage. I think this simple and elegant approach is so effective because it allows for deep sustained compression in a way that is impossible with the hands. I really enjoy taking everything that I have learned, assessing each person's needs individually, and then using whatever approach seems most appropriate at the time. The combination of Trigger Point, Barefoot and Swedish massage techniques that I employ are an effective way to address a variety of needs from chronic pain to injury to relaxation and more. I am committed to always keeping an open mind and, of course, I will tailor the session to any requests."
